Lives transformed

Matthew was adopted about six months before we first met him on Falcon Camp. His adoptive mum and dad have really persevered with him and done an amazing job. But being on a Falcon Camp has helped him to cope with and work with others, learn about how his actions and moods affect others and, of course, hear about Jesus and how much he is loved and valued by him.

Dean boldly stated to me that he had just asked the Lord Jesus to come into his heart.

Stacey, a girl from Manchester, went for a swim on the beach. She looked so serene and at home. She later told us that it had been her first ever visit to the seaside.

Simon, a 17 year-old, came to faith on the Saffron Walden Falcon Camp last year. Two years after his dad had walked out, hearing about a faithful and heavenly father was a life-changing message. He returned from the camp fired up for evangelism, sharing his faith and living out the Christian life by helping young people at a drop-in centre in his home town.

And from a Falcon Camp leader: 'We had ten young people make first time commitments! And about seven others want to come on a Youth Alpha course! That coupled with our great team probably made this our best Falcon Camp ever!'

More stories from Falcon Camp leaders

'The children and young people on Falcon Camps need this time away more than any others in order to find themselves, to shake off the pressures of home and the shackles of their circumstances, and to hear about the love of Jesus in a real way.'

'Falcon Camps consume a huge part of your mind - not only through the planning, preparation and panic but also in the weeks afterwards when something reminds you of a conversation or a particular person. And it's not only the young people themselves, but also the ethos of how Falcon Camps are run: the focus on giving opportunities that might not otherwise come to these kids from disadvantaged backgrounds and the absolute acceptance of them as individuals.' (Alice)

'We've learnt that the role of a Falcon Camps leader is simply to be with the young people rather than to be busy doing 'important' things. We are learning to spend time with people getting to know them and hopefully sharing the love of Jesus.' (Becky)

'We aim to touch the young people with the love of God, and always give each child a Bible (generously donated by a supporting church) as a present at the end of the week.' (Hugh)
